Casino bonuses explained: wagering maths and all 16 offers compared
A casino bonus is a loan of playing money with conditions attached, and the conditions matter more than the headline figure. I do the arithmetic on every offer before I rate it. This guide shows you how, and lines up all 16 welcome bonuses on the same scale.

How a welcome bonus works
Almost every casino on this site opens with a deposit match. You deposit, the casino adds a percentage of that deposit as bonus money, up to a cap. Eleven of the twelve Latvian-licensed sites use a 100% match: deposit €100 and you get €100 extra, up to the stated maximum, which ranges from €200 at Betsafe, LVBet and Spēlēt to €500 at X3000 and Tonybet.
Two variations are worth knowing. Spēlēt gives a 150% match up to €200, so a deposit of about €134 already unlocks the whole bonus. The four foreign sites use 150% up to €600, which needs a €400 deposit for the full amount. Most offers also include a batch of free spins, from 50 up to 400.
The bonus money is not yours to withdraw straight away. It sits in a bonus balance until you meet the wagering requirement. If you want to see how different casinos package their first-deposit deals, the welcome bonus overview on latvijas-kazino.eu is a good reference.
Wagering maths in plain numbers
Wagering, or the playthrough requirement, tells you how many times you must bet the bonus before it converts into real money. The calculation is simple: bonus amount multiplied by the requirement.
- €100 bonus at 30x = €3,000 of bets
- €100 bonus at 35x = €3,500 of bets
- €100 bonus at 40x = €4,000 of bets
- €100 bonus at 45x = €4,500 of bets
Throughout this site I apply the requirement to the bonus amount only. Some casinos apply it to deposit plus bonus, which doubles the turnover on a 100% match, so check the terms to see which version applies.
Scaled up to the full offer, the gaps become large. X3000's €500 at 35x needs €17,500 of bets. Laimz's €400 at 30x needs €12,000. Betsafe's €200 at 30x needs only €6,000. A foreign €600 bonus at 45x needs €27,000. Turnover is not money lost, since you win some bets along the way, but every euro wagered carries the house edge, so less turnover leaves more of the bonus intact. That is the whole logic behind my bonus scores.
A worked example with a €200 deposit
Take the same €200 deposit to three licensed sites with a 100% match. At Betsafe you get a €200 bonus at 30x, so €6,000 of bets. At Optibet the €200 bonus carries 35x, so €7,000, as set out in the Optibet casino review. At Klondaika it is 40x, so €8,000. Same deposit, same bonus amount, and a third more play needed at one end than the other. The difference between the Klondaika review score and Betsafe's on bonus value comes down to exactly that.
All 16 welcome offers compared
Here is every welcome offer on the same scale. The last column shows the turnover needed for each €100 of bonus, which is the fairest way I know to compare offers of different sizes.
| Casino | Bonus | Free spins | Wagering | Turnover per €100 bonus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| X3000 | 100% up to €500 | 200 | 35x | €3,500 |
| Optibet | 100% up to €300 | 100 | 35x | €3,500 |
| Laimz | 100% up to €400 | 150 | 30x | €3,000 |
| 11.lv | 100% up to €400 | 100 | 35x | €3,500 |
| Tonybet | 100% up to €500 | 150 | 35x | €3,500 |
| OlyBet | 100% up to €350 | 100 | 35x | €3,500 |
| Klondaika | 100% up to €300 | 50 | 40x | €4,000 |
| Spēlēt | 150% up to €200 | 50 | 40x | €4,000 |
| Betsafe | 100% up to €200 | 200 | 30x | €3,000 |
| LVBet | 100% up to €200 | 50 | 40x | €4,000 |
| Fenikss | 100% up to €250 | 75 | 35x | €3,500 |
| Joker.lv | 100% up to €300 | 60 | 40x | €4,000 |
| Lex | 150% up to €600 | 400 | 45x | €4,500 |
| Drip | 150% up to €600 | 325 | 45x | €4,500 |
| Monro | 150% up to €600 | 400 | 45x | €4,500 |
| 1GO | 150% up to €600 | 400 | 45x | €4,500 |
Two names stand out on value: the Laimz casino review and the Betsafe review explain why 30x puts them ahead of bigger headline offers.
Free spins: count them, then read the conditions
Free spins are the part of a bonus people notice first and understand least. Each spin has a fixed stake set by the casino, it is usually limited to one or a few named slots, and the winnings normally land in the bonus balance with their own wagering rule.
Among the licensed sites, X3000 and Betsafe give the most, 200 each. Tonybet and Laimz give 150. At the low end, Klondaika, LVBet and Spēlēt give 50. Joker.lv also runs a daily free spins promotion on top of its welcome offer, which I cover in the Joker.lv casino review. The foreign sites go much higher, with 400 at Lex, Monro and 1GO and 325 at Drip, though their winnings face the same 45x logic as the cash bonus.
My rule of thumb: a large spin count is pleasant, but it rarely changes my verdict on an offer by itself. For a wider look at how spin offers are structured, see the free spins guide on latvijas-kazino.eu.
No-deposit offers and cashback
No-deposit bonuses give you a small amount of bonus money or a few spins just for registering. They sound like free money, and in a narrow sense they are, but they tend to come with strict caps on what you can withdraw and high wagering. None of the sixteen welcome offers in my table is a no-deposit deal, and when one appears as a short promotion I treat it as a way to look around a casino, not as a source of profit. The no-deposit bonus page on latvijas-kazino.eu tracks such offers as they come and go.
Cashback returns a percentage of your net losses over a period, either as cash or as bonus money. Cashback paid as real money with no wagering is, for me, the most honest promotion a casino can run. Cashback paid as bonus money is worth less, because it goes back through the wagering loop. Always check which of the two you are looking at.
Bonus codes
Some offers are activated automatically with the first deposit; others need a code entered at registration or in the cashier. A code does not make a bonus better. It is simply a switch that tells the casino which promotion to attach to your deposit.
Beyond the welcome offer, most licensed sites run regular promotions for existing players: reload bonuses on later deposits, free spins on new slots, loyalty points and, at some brands, VIP tiers. Joker.lv has its VIP programme, Fenikss its Club F scheme shared with the halls. These are judged on the same logic as the welcome bonus: amount against wagering first, everything else second. A small reload at low wagering can be worth more than a large one at 40x.
Two practical points. First, enter the code before you confirm the deposit, because most casinos will not add a bonus after the money has landed. Second, if you would rather play without a bonus, for example to withdraw freely, look for the option to decline it at the deposit stage. On the licensed sites I review, the welcome offer is clearly described in the terms, and that text, not the banner, is what counts.
Max bet rules and game weighting
Two clauses in the bonus terms catch more players out than the wagering figure itself.
The max bet rule. While a bonus is active, casinos cap the size of a single bet. Go over it, even once, and the casino can cancel the bonus and the winnings made with it. The cap differs from site to site, so check the max bet rule in the terms before your first spin.
Game weighting. Not every game counts fully towards wagering. Slots usually count at 100%. Table games and live casino often count at a reduced rate or not at all, and some high-return slots may be excluded entirely. If you mainly play blackjack or roulette, a welcome bonus may be close to useless for you, and you could be better off playing with your own money and choosing a site on payout speed instead, as described in my fast withdrawals guide.
How I rank bonus value
My bonus score is built on turnover per euro of bonus first and the size of the bonus second. Free spins add a little, and restrictive extra terms take a little away.
- Laimz: up to €400 plus 150 free spins at 30x. The best combination of size and wagering on the list.
- Betsafe: 30x and 200 free spins, held back only by the €200 cap.
- X3000 and Tonybet: €500 at 35x, the largest licensed bonuses, with 200 and 150 spins respectively. See the X3000 casino review for the full picture.
- 11.lv, OlyBet, Optibet and Fenikss: solid 35x offers between €250 and €400.
- Klondaika, Joker.lv, LVBet and Spēlēt: 40x, which costs them ground regardless of size. The Spēlēt review covers its 150% twist.
- The four foreign sites: the biggest numbers on paper, but 45x makes them the hardest to clear. My guide to foreign casinos runs that maths in full.

Frequently asked questions
Which casino bonus is the best value in Latvia?
Laimz, with up to €400 and 150 free spins at 30x. Betsafe matches the 30x wagering with 200 free spins, but on a smaller €200 bonus.
How do I calculate the wagering requirement?
Multiply the bonus by the requirement. A €100 bonus at 35x needs €3,500 of bets; check the terms to see whether the requirement applies to the bonus only or to deposit plus bonus.
Which casino gives the most free spins?
Among Latvian-licensed sites, X3000 and Betsafe with 200 each. The foreign sites Lex, Monro and 1GO offer 400, Drip 325.
Are big foreign bonuses better than Latvian ones?
Not per euro. A €600 bonus at 45x needs €27,000 of turnover, while Laimz's €400 at 30x needs €12,000.
Do live casino games count towards wagering?
Often only partly or not at all. Slots usually count in full, so check the game weighting in the terms before you play live tables with a bonus.
Can I refuse a welcome bonus?
Yes. Most casinos let you decline the offer at the deposit stage, which leaves your balance free of wagering and max bet rules.
